All that really happened was that she was complimented on what a fabulous job she does in the show (duh!) and she talked about when she was sick in the beginning of the run(it was really sad she said she got sick from a nail place lol) then Tammy, John and her performed "Together, Wherever We Go". Bernadette looked gorgeous, as always

I didnt' see this morning but she has explained how she got sick before. She went to a salon to have a pedicure and sat down next to this woman who was obviously sick and I guess was just coughing like crazy. Shortly after that Bernadette got sick so she is assuming she caught her infection from that woman.

Yeah, and the rest of the interview just told how her recording of the soundtrack has done the best out of all of them, being on the billboard charts and all, and the performance was great. Tammy and John were wonderful too. They even brought the little trunk with them from the show and did the 'trying to juggle'thing, for lack of better words lol. And Bernadette did look goregous...I loved her dress and her shoes too!

Loved the performance (I taped it) but I found that... you just don't realize how much a costume adds to a performance until you see the performers singing out of costume. It was a funny juxtoposition. As opposed to seeing Bernadette in costume and singing as Rose(as she did at the Tonys) and seeing her in plain-clothes and singing as Rose -- it was almost like seeing two different people. I don't know. Maybe it's the hair. I just kept thinking... It's not Rose, it's Bernadette.

On second thought I really do think it's the hair. The hair is gorgeous, but it's distracting. Reminds me that it's Bernadette and not Rose. GOod thing she wears a wig during the show.

Anyway. Not that anyone needed that whole longwinded diatribe.

I loved Bernadette's comment about how the show is helping her discover new things about herself, which she said (somewhat jokingly) was a bit scary. (I remember her saying something similar about 'Sunday in the Park.) I also thought it VERY gracious of her to even talk about her illness. A lesser person might have gone on about how much flak she had to take for missing so many shows, but she was just very honest and sweet.

Also.... it looks like she cut her hair and added red lowlights (auburnish dark streaks.) Did anyone else notice that, or did she cut her hair awhile back and am I just slow on the uptake?

***************
Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

You made me go back and watch the tape. She did cut her hair! I didn't even notice it. Her hair is barely below her shoulders! It looks really nice.

I was also surprised to see her wearing her engagement ring. She doesn't tend to wear it unless she is really dressed up.

I'm so glad someone else noticed her hair! Fabulous, as always, but has been cut and low lights applied. Maybe it's easier to manage under her wig? She does have to pin it each night and the longer the hair the more to pin...I don't know-just a thought.

Anyway, she was perfect. I heard tht she wanted out of her contract-true? and if so do we know when? Since she performed on The View, I find it highly unlikely....at least through the Holidays. Does anyone know how long she will be taking off?

I went to the taping with a few other people, and it was so sad because we were the only ones laughing during certain comical parts in the number. For example:
Louise going the wrong way, the cow mention, a couple of the things Bernadette did.
Everyone else was just kind of like, duh.
I don't think that number works very well for television (especially when they're not in costume) because if the audience hasn't seen Gypsy, they are going to think that Tammy (not Louise) messed up and forgot to go the right way, or that Herbie and Louise were referring to Rose as a cow...not knowing there actually is a cow in the show.

It was kind of fun seeing them perform not in costume, but you're right. I felt like I was watching Bernadette, John, and Tammy. Not Rose, Herbie, and Louise.

I liked the dress Bernadette wore. It was very flattering on her, and the shoes were gorgeous. The face and gesture she made when she said the word "scary" was so funny.

Christine, I completely agree. As wonderful as they performed it, I don't think it came off well. Too many jokes within the song about other things in the show. Too bad.

I coulda kicked Joy, though, for not following up on what Bernadette had learned about herself from the role. Bad, bad interviewing.
Do these women do no preps? They just read what's written for them.

I'd really hoped Barbara was going to be there because she loves the show and would have done a better interview, even in the short timeframe.

I rarely watch The View but when I do I am continually reminded they are the talk show hosts with the worst possible interviewing skills ever. The whole set-up for the pedicure thing was poorly done. It just added more confusion with Joy Behar continually saying "so a pedicure actually stopped the show" which was obviously just a play on words not the truth. Bernadette tried to explain the joke but I'm sure hesitated to say "So when I was out sick, the show suffered greatly". That would have been rude for her to say especially to Maureen but yes, Bernadette getting a pedicure ended up causing severe financial damage to the show in a roundabout way. One of the hosts should have clarified that at the beginning of the run when she was sick she was out of the show for several performances and it caused a lot of gossip, etc. I'm sure at least 80% of the viewing audience didn't know what the hell any of them were talking about.

They either don't schedule enough time for interviews or they end up talking on top of one another and interrupting their guests constantly.

I don't think I have ever seen an episode with Barbara Walters on there but I'm assuming she would do a much better interview. Seems like she needs to sit "her ladies" down and teach them a thing or two.

Also, has anyone noticed that every single interview (TV and magazine) that Bernadette has done to promote Gypsy has all been centered around the exact same topics? "When you first came into this role, not many people thought you could do it." And then it ALWAYS involves Bernadette replying, "Well, the real Rose looked a lot like me. She was short and blond." I don't know about the rest of you, but I would give ANYTHING for a fresh interview that doesn't dicuss the same boring aspects of the show every time. Okay, we KNOW there were nay-sayers at the beginning of the show's run. We KNOW that Bernadette toured with the show when she was a teenager. Move on! There are plenty of other intriguing questions to ask Bernadette about the show.

There. I feel better.
